Throwing it back to the progress of Her Garden (oil on canvas, 36” × 24”.

This summer, I’m visiting Chengdu, China. I’ve especially enjoyed revisiting the Taoist mountains and temples. It’s fascinating to experience them with a new perspective—I appreciate the culture, history, and art so much more than I did on my last visit, which was before the devastating Sichuan earthquake nearly 20 years ago.

I’m soaking in every moment and embracing all the inspiration for future paintings.

Her Garden was built through many layers of paint and texture. Even now, I can still imagine new possibilities and directions I could take it.

It’s the last week to see Her Garden on view in Golden Hour at CINC @creativeincommonorg through this weekend.

On my last trip in spring, I fell in love with the warm reds, oranges, and yellows of the Gaillardia flowers. Their dramatic color transitions were so inviting, so I added this flower to my dahlia garden for an extra vibrant color.

This yummy blueberry pie is now even yummier!

One of my favorite parts of oil painting is applying the final varnish. It’s so relaxing and satisfying. It really evened out the area, bringing the rich colors and shine back again. It also provides a protective barrier against dust and UV!

I’m excited to share that it will be on view at State of the Art 2026 at @studiomontclair from June 26 to July 24.
